India's FDE postings grew ~19x in a year — and Anthropic just printed a $200K–$300K US base

19x. Indeed data shows Forward Deployed Engineer postings in India grew nearly 19-fold between June 2025 and June 2026, with growth still running above 6x year-on-year in August. Indeed India's MD put the demand plainly: "companies want engineers who can sit with a customer." The FDE market is no longer a San Francisco story. It's being built city by city, and the postings are arriving faster than the pay data is.

Anthropic finally printed a US FDE band. The Applied AI FDE posting (Boston, NYC, Seattle, SF) lists $200K–$300K base plus equity, 25–50% travel, 4+ years in a technical customer-facing role. Deliverables are named: MCP servers, sub-agents and agent skills inside strategic accounts.

T-Mobile is running an FDE practice. A Principal "Forward Deployment Engineer" seat in Bellevue posts $164.5K–$296.7K base plus a 20% bonus target, measured on validated ROI across the FDE portfolio. A US carrier using the FDE title is the market moving past the AI-lab bubble.

Nango (YC W23) hired its founding FDE. Remote, with a printed band: $120K–$200K plus 0.05–0.15% equity.

Anthropic's FDE seat now carries three different compensation signals, and reading them side by side is more useful than any single band.

The SF listing on our board shows $350K–$550K total comp. The new US Applied AI posting prints $200K–$300K base plus equity. London, employer-provided, runs £200K–£300K. We also tracked an earlier US posting at $280K–$320K base last month, so even the US base has moved depending on the req.

Same title, same lab, a spread of roughly $100K at the ceiling before equity. What explains it? Scope and level (founding seat vs. a team slot), geography (London was priced above its US sibling to plant a financial-services beachhead), and the equity assumptions baked into "TC" versus "base."

One thing is consistent: the bar. The new posting asks for 4+ years in a technical, customer-facing role, production LLM experience (agents, evals, scaled deployment) and strong Python. That's lower than Cursor's 5+ or Okta's 7+, and it names deliverables rather than titles: MCP servers, sub-agents, agent skills.

What it means for you: when you negotiate, ask which of the three you're being compared to, and whether the number you're hearing is base or TC. The gap is bigger than the offer.
